BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INFORMATION, COMMUNICATION AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRE (ICT)

The University’s ICT Centre was set up to provide computing facilities to support teaching, research, extension, consultancy and administrative activities for all Units in the University. VISION

The vision of ICT is to develop robust infrastructure and corresponding services to facilitate the teaching, learning, research and administrative functions of the University. The ICT mandate is to serve as the flagship to market the University as a centre of excellence to the global Community. Appropriate modern hardware and software as well as highly skilled personnel are being made available to the Centre to enable it meet the diverse needs of its clients. The Centre is also charged with the responsibility of making the University community computer-literate. PRESENT AND FUTURE ACTIVITIES OF ICT CENTRE

  1. To plan, develop and manage robust campus-wide ICT infrastructure.
  2. To connect all members of staff on the campus for collaborative work and provide excellent customer service centre.
  3. To develop relevant applications/solutions for MTU.
  4. To manage the University’s Staff and students’ record/portal.
  5. To carry out research and development in ICT in collaboration with other Departments.
  6. To involves in regular training for end-users on computer literacy.
  7. To promote staff development programme in order to ensure that necessary skills are acquired to provide high-quality teaching, learning, research and services.
  8. To organise training in conjunction with DBI, ETF, etc.
  9. To organise ICT Training for fresh students in the University.
  10. To facilitate Foreign Examination like TOEFL, Oracle, GRE etc.
  11. To Involve in Collaboration with Pearson VUE, Microsoft, CISCO etc.
  12. To provide periodic updates information that will promote the image of the University.
  13. Regularly update Web pages with news within the University.
  14. Collate recent research and major breakthroughs within the University and made them available on the Website.
  15. To provide Modern, World Class Audio Visual Laboratory for Seminar & Teleconference during University Distinguished Lecture, Inaugural, Convocation, Matriculation etc.
  16. Involve in streaming of events & uploading past event on the Web
  17. To maintain the University’s servers and computer systems (workstations).
  18. To carry out Troubleshooting of networking problems and proffer solution.
  19. To update computer utility software e.g. Antivirus, registry cleaner, etc.
  20. Respond to and resolve users’ (University Management, Staff and Students) ICT problems.
  21. To assist in developing University’s Website.
  22. Manages MTU’s e-mail Accounts - the Centre provides official e-mail accounts for academic and non-academic staff.
  23. Carry out an On-line registration of students.
  24. To undertake Departmental, Units, Centre’s web-design and web-hosting for the University.
  25. Carry out In-house Networking services instead of outsourcing.
  26. To carry out Consultancy Service.
  27. To develop specialised computer training programmes within and in partnership with foreign computing organisations (i.e. CISCO Academy).
  28. To provide modern study spaces with lots of PCs, Wi-fi access, quiet areas and comfort zones.
  29. To provide ICT-rich learning environment for teaching and learning in structured groups.
  30. To provide access to specialized web-based research sites and databases.
